As we celebrate the rich heritage that defines Matthews, we must also embrace the opportunities ahead.  My priorities for the next two years reflect a commitment to thoughtful stewardship, strategic growth, and community-centered progress:

  • Upholding a responsible, conservative approach to budgeting while delivering on the evolving needs and expectations of our residents
  • Finalizing plans and launching construction of the new Matthews Elementary and Discovery Place Kids Museum – cornerstones of learning and imagination for our youth
  • Securing a larger, more accessible downtown location for our nationally recognized Farmers Market, enhancing its visibility and convenience
  • Partnering with the Hendrick Group to deliver their Acceleration Advanced Manufacturing Campus, bringing high-paying, future-ready jobs to Matthews
  • With robust community input, beginning construction and enhancements at Purser-Hulsey Park
  • Implementing a formal employee retention strategy to support and sustain our dedicated municipal workforce
  • Strengthening tree and development ordinances to prevent indiscriminate clear-cutting, with special protections for legacy trees and natural buffers
  • Insisting that rezoning petitioners present only the highest-quality proposals for our few remaining developable parcels - projects that reflect our values, vision, and long-term interests

Together, we will continue shaping a Matthews that honors its past, serves its present, and prepares boldly for its future.
